I bought them for my mom, she's 63 and she has a sugar diabetes (if u don't know what it is and how cold each winter the people who have this illness are, u're lucky). She lives in Russia, not the warmest country in the world, that's why I was looking for something special, I would even say extraordinary. And I found!I've already checked how the boots work and I like it! It happened inside the house and in 10 minutes having them on I felt dizzy from that hot. Well, sure it was already warm in the house and I put on a cashemere socks before the "experiment"... But still! The boots definitely don't work just like a stove, BUT they do heat and I can imagine how warm and cozy my mom is gonna feel:) Feeling happy for her and satisfied with my purchase!P.S. system (I mean the batteries and etc.) works good. The delivery was fast. Got it in three or four days (don't remember exactly). Good job!

I just wrote my first review of a product on Columbia.com. I have to rave about this boot! Keep in mind, this is after my first wear, but I was so grateful to have warm feet, I had to. I ordered a 1/2 size bigger, based on some of the reviews I'd read, and I'm glad I did - they fit perfect - they would have been too tight had I ordered my size (5). I charged up the batteries and wore them out to shovel for 2 hours after an epic snowstorm dump of 30" and sub-zero temps. As I have Reynaud's syndrome, it generally takes about 30 min before my toes go numb if not less time, no matter how much layering I do and I can't always put the little foot warmer in a boot if I have a ton of layering and they always move around. Yesterday, NO numb toes and I only had to use the lowest setting - a first since I can remember, and it lasted the entire time I was out there - my fingers were numb but not my toes. I'm sold! Now, if they can just figure out how to do this effectively with a glove, I might actually go skiing again! I'm ever so grateful to have these boots for my feet! I may write again after determining longevity of the boot's warming capacity, but for now, I give these things 10 thumbs up!

Update on this review:Had to return the boots. First pair, the right boot quit working. Was sent a second set and the same thing happened. I believe it has to do with something about how the wiring is set up in the boot. Somehow, it keeps getting disconnected somewhere near the on/off switch. This may have been due to the daily walking I was doing with these boots, but why only the right boot? - I don't know. And considering the video I watched demonstrating this boot, it was made for cross country skiers so it should be able to handle simple daily walking. I contacted the company Columbia and they said it was a new technology and will continue to try and improve on it. Hopefully they will come out with a better version which I will be willing to try again at a later date.Original review:Great boot. Love the rechargeable batteries. I deliver mail for a living in all weather conditions living in Michigan. Many times my feet get cold when I have to drive my truck for curb delivery as they have poor heating and the window has to be down. Definitely makes a huge difference and I like the different heat settings for the varying weather. Comfortable to walk in all day, even in warmer weather around 50 degrees. The boot does have a stiff upper support that would be great for skiing too. I have read other reviews about Columbia boots being stiff in the ankle area and digging in. I have run into this problem a couple of times and noticed that if I re-laced the boot either tighter or looser, it solved the problem. I am a short person, only 5 feet tall, so lacing the boot all the way up makes for a stiffer walk so usually the second or third hook to the top has worked well for me depending on if I'm driving or walking. The color in this picture on Amazon is way off for the Black/Gulfstream choice - you should check out Columbia's home page for a more accurate picture for color.
